Information & Specifications

MODEL INFORMATION

The OSSA 250 was a touring motorcycle model manufactured by OSSA between 1969 and 1985. Throughout its commercial life, several versions were manufactured, all of them with the following general characteristics: air-cooled 244 cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine, Double cradle frame and conventional fork at the front and telescopic shock absorbers at the rear.

The 250T Copa (or Copa 77), was a transition model between the quiet 250T and the future “Copa” version of 1979. The 27 hp of its engine, together with a tight weight (112 kg) made it a sports motorcycle and manageable, with fast accelerations and a top speed of around 145-150 km / h. Despite its considerable height and rugged demeanor (with a hard-to-operate clutch), it was an effective motorcycle and among its strengths stood out its good brake equipment – an AJP front disc and a powerful rear drum – the start-up almost immediate thanks to its electronic ignition and the smooth running of the 32mm Bing carburettor. On the downside, it was worth mentioning excessive fuel consumption, as were the noise and smoke levels from its engine.

At the end of 1978, OSSA entered into a deep crisis that would end up causing the company to leave its owners (among them, the engineer responsible for the development of its models, Eduard Giró) and its conversion into a public limited company. Despite the difficult situation, the brand was able to create a version of the 250 capable of winning the National Production Races. The new 1979 “Copa 79” featured major changes, including the motocross Phantom cylinder (identifiable by its only four fins). A lot of client race bikes was produced by the national teams for use on classic series.
