Model Information:
The Mahinda MGP3 is a four-stroke race motorcycle developed for the Moto3 World Championship.
Mahindra Racing entered the 125cc class (the predecessor to Moto3) as a team in 2011. Starting in 2013, they began supplying motorcycles (the Mahindra MGP3O) to other private teams, in addition to competing with their own team. Suter also had a significant collaboration with Mahindra. Since 2012 to 2016, Suter Industries participated in the development and production of Mahindra’s M3 Grand Prix machine. While Mahindra had its own engine designed by the Indian factory, Suter’s expertise in chassis design and manufacturing contributed to Mahindra’s Moto3 bikes achieving podium finishes and victories.
Despite competing against established brands such as Honda and KTM, Mahindra managed to carve out a niche in the competitive Moto3 category. Its peak came in 2016, which was its most successful season, achieving three victories. In total, Mahindra garnered 13 podium finishes, including three wins.
Mahindra was a “school” for many riders that now are MotoGP stars. Notable names who have ridden a Mahindra in Moto3 include Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia (who achieved Mahindra’s first Moto3 victory at the 2016 Dutch Grand Prix), Jorge Martín, Miguel Oliveira, Brad Binder, Marco Bezzecchi, Efrén Vázquez, and Albert Arenas.
In June 2017, Mahindra Racing announced that it would end its participation in the Moto3 category at the end of that season. The decision was made to focus its efforts and resources on the Formula E Championship (electric car racing), where the brand also had a team and had achieved success.
