In 1988, Jorge Martínez “Aspar” made history by winning two World Championships with Derbi:
World Champion in 80cc
He won his third consecutive World Championship in the 80cc class.
He secured the title at the Yugoslavian Grand Prix in July 1988.
World Champion in 125cc
He won his first World Championship in the 125cc class.
He achieved 9 victories in this category during the 1988 season.
A historic achievement
In 1988, Aspar became the first rider to win both the 80cc and 125cc World Championships in the same season. He also achieved a total of 15 victories across both categories.
It was one of the greatest milestones of his racing career.
